Not religious but highly spiritual. A phrase my mother would say often, flew over my head, not intune with what she was stating. Gone from this earth over 15 years, but our relationship grew despite her abscence. Being my mother's daughter prepared me for challenges I was too young and naive to believe existed in society. Mocking her and her hippy freedom fighter days. Not realizing that I would one day discover something I needed to fight for. Her spiritual relationship became my spiritual relationship. When I feel joy, I throw up gratitude for my blessings. When I feel weak, I throw up my hands to be lifted. When I feel unsure, I catch the answers thrown in my path or I let them land where they fall. So when my life starts being exemplory of the definition of insanity... Repeating the same thing expecting a different result. I can only hope and pray that those answers that I let fall where they land are still where I left them.
My writings are my experiences, my lessons, my flaws and my growth. They are not to flash a "better then thou" sentiment nor to be used as weapons against me. The inability to conform has been threaded into my nature while silence was a virtue taught to never embrace. Preparations were made for me growing up for a life as a Triple Threat, as my mother called it. Hoping she meant I can sing, dance, and act. But no, she firmly told me life as a Black, Latina, Woman will not be easy for me so best to learn how to fight now. I did as she taught...to question, don't accept the unacceptable and don't ever go against your beliefs out of fear of being alone. Today I am a Woman, a Substance User and a Sex Worker, your new Triple Threat.
